WINNING STROKES: THINK DIFFERENT: Yesterday, the Indian Stock Markets behaved as expected and as mentioned in the morning in Face Book---in the late afternoon trade an "Avalanche of Bulls" proliferated the TRADING RING, taking control of the affairs of the both BSE and NSE. It was mentioned  in Face Book, yesterday morning, that as soon as Nifty crosses 4930--4950, range an avalanche of bulls could dominate the proceedings of the bources--ditto happened as the Sensex soared by more than 250 points in the last afternoon trade.  Refex Refrigerants Ltd hits the buyer freeze both in BSE and NSE.The company's renewal energy projects are expected to go on stream from June, 2010. Those who are holding the shares can continue to do the same. I have however taken some new position yesterday. I remember buying this  scrip around Rs.65-67 in 2007 and then selling around Rs.150. The scrip however moved much higher after I exited.   Hilton Metal Products...
Should Pyramid Saimira Theatres Ltd trade in BSE??!! Pyramid Saimira Theatre tumbled both on BSE & NSE after latter decided to suspend trading in the company's shares for non-compliance with provisions of the listing agreement. The suspension will be with effective from 1 June 2010, i.e., closing hours of trading on 31 May 2010. NSE sa id the non-compliance with provisions of the listing agreement includes non-submission of corporate governance report for the quarter ended 31 March 2010. Though I could not contact my sources on further clarification, but it seems the stock will be traded on the BSE (Bombay Stock Exchange), henceforth. If this is the case then it is good for the shareholders of Pyramid Saimira Theatres Ltd...They can sell the shares in NSE and buy the same in BSE .....or...............I cannot write full details here because of some obvious reasons concerning the NSE (National Stock Exchange)!!!!! Pyramid Saimira reported a net loss of of Rs ...
Small Flats Are Back In Mumbai as Sales Dry Up: With realty sales drying up due to increasing prices, developers are now developing small homes priced to be within reach of middle-income homebuyers, especially the young. For instance, Netz Realty is coming up with studio apartments at Andheri and Mahim, with 300 to 450 sq ft furnished flats priced in the range of Rs 30-Rs 40 lakh. Ms Renuka Khekade, a spokesperson for Netz Realty said their target audience are young home buyers. She also said the trend of studio apartments is picking up in various metros, driven primarily by pent-up demand for affordable mid-range housing. While Ankur Enterprises is offering 475-sq-ft one-bedroom-hall-kitchen flats in the Rs 30 lakh range at Nahur near Mulund, two other developers, Samarth Krupa and Aditya Builders have put on the market compact houses in the Rs 25-Rs 30 lakh range in Tilak Nagar at Chembur. Besides this trend, many developers who've acquired land at low prices t...

Puzzle!! According to a financial daily: Facebook, (www.facebook.com) a social networking juggernaut has more than 400 million members and its valuation is whopping $15 billion. Now to make things a little simple, let me give you the figures in Indian Rupees. Now we know,  (i) 1 (one) Billion = 10 to the power of nine (one followed by 9 zeros) and (ii) 1 (one) Million = 10 to the power of six (one followed by 6 zeros) Hence One Billion = 100 Cr .. Therefore, Rs.700 billion= Rs.700x100 Cr= Rs.70, 000 Cr .. Can you Imagine....??!! Now if this the valuation of www.facebook.com, then what is the valuation of India's 3rd (third) largest social networking web-site: www.bharatstudent.com, which is owned by Northgate Technologies Ltd..??!! Any Guesses.....??!! Moreover, Northgate Technologies Ltd also owns: (i) www.axill.com (ii)www.ziddu.com (iii)www.globe7.com Hence what is the total valuation of the web-properties of Northgate Technologies Ltd in ...

Sensex to cross 19, 000??!! Stock market benchmark Sensex may soar past the 19,000-point level this year, propelled by domestic factors like robust economic expansion and decent corporate earnings growth, the country's top brokerage and investment banking entity ICICI Securities has said. The only negative headwinds the Indian market can witness could be due to negative cues from global markets, but investors willing to stay invested for at least 15-18 months will not be disappointed with their returns, I-Sec Managing Director and CEO Madhabi Puri-Buch told. "Markets are partly linked to real economy and the corporate earnings and then also partly to global liquidity... Real economy in India, as also the corporate earnings, will continue to grow and the growth is here to stay," Buch noted. The I-Sec chief noted that even 15 per cent corporate earnings growth, which would be a reasonably low estimate as per the prevailing trends, would be sufficient to propel the S...
XL Telecom and Energy Ltd comes up with compartively better results in Q4FY10, speaking sequentially: I was going through the Q4FY10, results of XL  Telecom and Energy Ltd and was comparing with that of Q3FY10. The results of the  company for Q4FY10, looks quite impressive, on sequential basis, though the  company still could not pull up a profit. RESULT ANALYSIS: XL Telecom and Energy Ltd did a slightly better performance on sequential basis. The net sales in Q4FY10, increased from Rs.1.8 Cr to Rs.6.67 Cr in Q3FY10. The losses in Q4FY10 also decreased substantially considering Q3FY10 figures---from Rs.(-23.81 Cr to -15.27 Cr). What is more interesting is the operating profit is almost positive.....looks the company is improving its fundamentals....I will speak with the sources regarding its new project very soon..... On the other hand Northgate Technologies Ltd is expected to be presenting a write-off  free balance sheet in the Q4FY10. Let us see...
REALTY BITES:  Builders/Developers might be forced to cut prices of their inventories: While the worst might be over for the realty sector, rising property prices, possibility of higher home loan rates, debt burden and likely tightening to curb inflationary pressures are likely to be key hurdles. The March quarter and the 2009-10 result of India's largest listed realty company, DLF, as well as the sales numbers of Unitech, the number two, indicate a revival of sorts. Though there has been an improvement due to an increase in demand in the residential segment, a sharp increase in prices across the country could stymie the recovery. A poor response on listing for Nitesh Estates' IPO and the recently unsuccessful qualified institutional placements from realty companies also indicates lack of investor appetite. Analysts estimate residential sales volumes in 2009-10 to be in the region of 250 million sq ft. This is higher over 2008-09 numbers by...

Sweetest language tag for Bengali? TNN, Apr 22, 2010 K OLKATA: The Bengali New Year couldn’t have started on a sweeter note. If a message circulating on social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook is to be believed, Bengali has been voted the sweetest language in the world. Conducted by Unesco, the vote ranks Spanish and Dutch as the second and third sweetest tongues respectively. Even though Twitter and Facebook users have started celebrating, there was yet no official confirmation from Unesco which conducted the online voting a couple of months back. Messages and postings like “Joy Bangla”, “Proud to be a Bengali” and “Banglar Joy” have flooded social networking sites. Celebratory messages are being exchanged, though some felt it could be premature. Rahul Ray, who came across the news on Twitter four days ago, was ecstatic. “If so many people are talking about it, this has to be true. There can’t be any doubt that Bengali is a sweet language. Now, it has been accepted...

Importance Notice Regrading Instant Forex: This is to inform you that, Instant Forex (www.instantforex.biz) has stopped all forms of Euro Conversion, except through their DEBIT CARD, to check the influx of fake Euro which are being dumped, creating financial problems for the company.  If you buy the debit card around Rs.8000, (120 Euro) then you do not have to run here and there to convert your Euros--this is what this Russian Company is saying. The company mentioned in their web-site that, the things will be streamlined by the end of May, 2010. However, DEBIT CARD is not at all cheap, it comes at a heavy price, and to get it one must either have Passport or Driving License. One of my friends have applied for the same, let me see  its functionality and then we could apply for the same.  Moreover, some of the Euros though removed from the respective accounts could not be converted, to INR as the company blocked all those Euros for the time being. So unless those E...

Is this the beginning of a U.S. market meltdown like we saw in 2008 and early 2009? Possibly not!! Going by the statistics, 2008 (in the US )was marked by financial and housing sectors disasters but the investors and others ignored the problems, which later snowballed into a crisis.  But now the situation is a little different. The U.S. economy is much healthier now and is continuing to recover, with US stocks reflecting that improvement. That said, the Dow is up almost 60% since its March 9, 2009 low, and after such a huge advance the market is more vulnerable to correction. Greece is the wild card. Greek Crisis was again at center-stage in global equity markets last week. The cost of insuring against losses on European bank bonds soared to a record, surpassing levels triggered by the collapse of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. in 2008. Swaps on Greece, Portugal, Spain and Italy rose to or near all-time high levels. The bond and money market turmoil is spilling over...
Bollywood to take Rs 230-cr test during summer vacations Pradipta Mukherjee & Swarup Chakraborty Post the box-office drought during the Indian Premier League (IPL), Bollywood is now gearing up for the harvest season, with four big releases spread over the next 40 days. With Yash Raj Films’ Badmaash Company, which released last Friday, May and June will see the release of Kites, Raajneeti and Raavan. More than Rs 230 crore has been riding on these four films. Their success is paramount for the health of the film industry, which has seen a number of flops this year. Between January and April this year there have been 62 film releases of which only four have been hits. The film industry incurred losses of at least Rs 200 crore in these four months, primarily due to poor content and the IPL matches which dominated the entertainment scene. Failure of medium-to-big budget movies like Dulha Mil Gaya, Chance Pe Dance, Rann, Teen Patti, Pyaar Impossible and Princ...

Time Warner Surprises Market: Media Boom Perks up its boomline: S ome days back I put a report on media sector and advertising revenues on this blog and www.facebook.com....today this news came out in the press: Time Warner Inc posted a better-than-expected quarterly profit on Wednesday on a rebound in advertising sales at its cable networks and magazines ... , as well as strong DVD sales of "The Blind Side" and "Sherlock Holmes." Shares of the media conglomerate rose 1.8 percent in premarket trading, after it reported a 9 percent increase in advertising sales at the networks from a year earlier. The results were also helped by higher fees that cable operators pay Time Warner to carry cable channels such as CNN and TNT. "The numbers were impressive. The networks are going to surprise people," said Thomas Eagan, analyst at Collins Stewart. The future of CNN has been the subject of speculation in recent months as i...
