For CBI,Quattrocchi is no longer most wanted
[Updated]
[My addition: It seems, Dr.Manmohan Singh has started to pay back for using the seat of Prime Minister which was originally allotted to Ms.Sonia Gandhi!!
Is LOOTING OF PUBLIC PROPERTY, becoming institutionalised now?? Think carefully, because the next phase of voting is just a few days away....
The news that has just arrived from my sources in Assam (South Assam) is that a top level Congress Leader has been seriously injured today, after he was attacked by a mob of at least 300 people; allegedly on corruption charges.
NEEDLESS TO SAY THAT TIME TIME IN ASSAM, the AGP--BJP COMBINE WOULD SWEEP THE ELECTIONS; after the newly formed AUDF (Assam United Democratic Front and also called Muslim League of Assam) played the Muslim Card (and to some extent Hindu Card), leaving the Congress Party begging and gasping.......
The AGP-BJP combine is slated to bag at least 8 (eight) seats in Assam alone. Besides this in North East, Dr.P A Sangma's (a Christian) NCP is most likely not to join the UPA on moral grounds, which would give some more seats to National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Hence the Congress is in very bad shape in the entire North East.....
In Tamil Nadu, the DMK will be routed this time after they joined the Congress in supporting the Genocide of the Sri Lankan Tamils. The late drama of Mr.Karunanidhi to drum up support for his party by going for fast will not help in anyway.
It is sad to note that inspite of my repeated writings in this blog, about providing aid to the Sri Lankan Tamils who were caught between the warring parties neither the Indian media nor the ruling UPA came out for timely help. I have been writing about this, since the last few months without any effect--with most of the media channels laughing away.....
If you remember, a few days back after I wrote strongly about the conditions of Tamils in Sri--Lanka, the next day, Mr.Karunanidhi called Mr.V Prbhakaran his friend (which he later detracted) and the drama of the media channels started n full swing. I had earlier mentioned in this blog that, if humanitarian aid can be sent to unrelated areas like Gaza, on account of Israeli attack on Jihadis (or HMAS), I do not understand why such aid cannot be sent to Sri Lankan Tamils who are fighting injustice done against them or for making them 2nd class citizens in Sri Lanka??
It is well known that the UPA government sent aid to Gaza victims some months, who were mostly from the communal (Radical) organisation called the HMAS to win over Muslim vote bank. HMAS is more of a Jihadi in nature than the more secular FATAH. I think you know that, over 2006 and 2007, the United States supplied guns, ammunition and training to Palestinian Fatah activists to take on Hamas in the streets of Gaza and the West Bank in a U.S. effort that cost $59 million and covertly persuaded Arab allies to supply more funding. A large number of Fatah activists were trained and "graduated" from two West Bank camps while Jordan and Egypt trained two Fatah battalions, one of which was deployed to Gaza in May.
Thus the wrong external affairs policy of the UPA only strengthened the resolve of the Jihadi organisations called HMAS, which is machinery of mass destruction. What I mean to say is that, Indian Government instead of supporting the FATAH supported the more communal HMAS to win over Radical Muslim votes in India.
But, what is lamenting is that all these fell in the deaf ears of the both the UPA Government and the biased/ malicious Indian media (at least 80% of the Indian media is biased or Yellow. However, the News X, Zee TV, CNEB, etc are doing good job in most of the cases) until the situation turned worst.
Some media channels even made a mockery of what Mr.Vaiko has said, instead of going to the root cause of LTTE episode. This gross mismanagement of the Sri Lankan crisis would only help AIADMK--PMK combine. The UPA tried to solve this crisis too late with too little effort.
Moreover, newsmen like Mr.N Ram (Editor of The Hindu) would have to come out of the illusion that, "If civilians are let out or escorted out in Sri Lanka, LTTE would be isolated". This is a farcical argument as it is not possible to eliminate a group which is having a mass support base.
Mr.Ram, was India able to isolate, the terrorist organisations in the North East (and Eastern India) like the:
NSCN (Isaac-Muivah or IM)
NSCN (Khaflang)
ULFA
PLA (People's Liberation Army)
MULTA (Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Asom )
NDFB (The National Democratic Front of Bodoland)
DHD (Dima Haolam Daoga & popularly known as the Black Widow)
Maoists (MCC)
PWG (Peoples' War Group), etc. in the last 20--40 years, even using the might of Indian Army??!!
Is it not true that even after so many years of government's tall claim of taming these organisations, the militant faction of the MNF is still active in Mizoram and BLTF (Bodo Liberation Tiger Force) is still active in some parts of Assam??!!
Moreover, HUJI (Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islami or Movement of Islamic Holy War), a Pakistan-based terrorist group with an affiliate in Bangladesh is still very much active in North East India, due to local support of Radical Muslims. The recent serial bomb blasts in Assam (on which UPA is silent due to obvious reasons) is believed to have been caused by HUJI Terrorists.
Hence the media channels should STOP bringing in, "Arm Chair Specialists", who sit in ivory towers and deliver high decibel illusory lectures to the gullible audience/public......]
After figuring in category of people wanted by Interpol for 12 years, the CBI has asked the international agency to take off Italian businessman Ottavio Quattrocchi, an accused in the multi-crore Bofors payoff scam, from the Red Corner notice list in which he had been put at India's behest.
The decision was taken after getting the legal opinion from Attorney General Milon Banerjee.
"The case has been under trial in the courts since 1999. The CBI has taken action on the basis of legal advice of the highest order. We will inform the competent court on the next date of hearing (April 30, 2009)," CBI spokesman Harsh Bahal said on Tuesday.
The Attorney General cited the inability of the CBI to seek Quattrocchi's extradition on two occasions --first in Malaysia in 2003 and then in Argentina in 2007--and opined that the judgments in both the cases indicated that there were no good grounds for extradition.
"....The warrant cannot remain in force forever. Therefore, the warrant of February 1997 would lose its validity, particularly in view of the successive failed attempts of the CBI to get the accused extradited from Malaysia and recently from Argentina," Banerjee, the country's top law officer, said.
The decision on the issue was taken by the Government on the basis of the opinion and the CBI informed the Interpol that the CBI case--RC.1(A)/90-ACU.IV/SIG (Bofors case)—and subject of Interpol Red Corner Notice--A-44/2/1997 against Quattrocchi should be cancelled.
The case was registered against him as the agency had alleged that he had received a part of kickbacks in the Bofors gun deal.
The Italian businessman, in his mid-60s, was named by the CBI in 1999 as a proclaimed offender and on the basis of a 1997 non-bailable warrant, the agency had sought a Red Corner notice against him.
Quattrocchi was last arrested on February 6, 2007 in Argentina on an Interpol warrant. The CBI came under attack for putting up a half-hearted effort towards his extradition and India lost the case in an Argentinian court in June 2007.
The judge there had remarked that "India did not even present proper legal documents" and New Delhi was asked to pay Quattrocchi's legal expenses.
On October 22, 1999, when the BJP-led NDA government was in power, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Quattrocchi, naming AE Services as a front company run by him and his wife Maria.
Based on 500 documents released by Swiss banks after protracted legal procedures, the CBI framed charges against Quattrocchi and his wife.
Attempts to extradite Quattrocchi from Malaysia in 2003 failed owing to lack of "compelling" evidence and in the same year he had returned to Italy from that country.
Extradition request or serving the Interpol warrant on the Italian businessman were turned down by Italy, which had wanted to see the evidence and prosecute Quattrocchi in an Italian court.
