FOOD SECURITY:
Food security exists when all people at all times have physical and economic access to sufficient, safe and nutrious food to meet their dietary needs and food preferences for an active and healthy life.

Food Security has four dimensions:

1. The Availability of food

2. Access to food.

3. The safe and healthy... utilisation of food

4. The stability of food availability, access and utilisation.

The fundamental goal of food security is the improvement of the human condition. At the national level, food security means having sufficient food to meet the food needs of all citizens. Household food security is the application of this concept at the family level. At the individual level, food security relates closely to nutritutional status and consequently, anything that threatens adequate nutrition.

Finance Minister, Dr.Pranab Mukherjee's take on food security in Budget FY11:

1. To take steps to tackle Food Crop Storage, Shortage.

2. Decided 5 more mega food park projects

3. ECBs now available for food processing sector.

4. Draf Food security bill to be in the Public Domain very soon.
