Sinclairs-WBTDC inks MoU, invests Rs 200 cr in tourism sector Kolkata, Apr 05:
Kolkata-based Sinclairs Hotels Ltd today signed an MoU with the West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation Ltd (WBTDC) and Sundarban Infrastructure Development Corporation (SIDC) to invest Rs 200 crore in the tourism sector. After inking the deal, Tourism Minister Manabendra Mukherjee said, ''The WBTDC and SIDC will facilitate long term lease of government land and assist Sinclairs in acquisition of land as per the law. The organisations will also facilitate grant of consent, permissions and approvals from various government departments.'' The WBDTC will also facilitate reciept of incentives, benefits or assistance as per eligibility norms of the tourism policy of the West Bengal government, the minister added.Speaking on the occasion, Sinclairs Hotels Ltd Chairman Niren Suchanti said, ''As per the MoU, Sinclairs will work closely with the WBTDC and SIDC to identify suitable sites for tourism projects in Bengal and prepare feasibility studies of these locations for setting up hotels, resorts and other facilities in existing as well as new tourist destinations.'' The company would invest Rs 200 crore in various projects, including service apartments and shopping complex in Siliguri with a capital outlay of Rs 50 crore, resort with golf course in North Bengal (Rs 50 crore) and eco-friendly ethnic resort in Jharkhali region of Sundarban (Rs 15 crore), he informed.Besides creating direct employment for several hundred local people, these projects would give rise to a large number ancillaries contributing to the overall development of the state, Mr Mukherjee asserted.
