Gold Seized at Airport

26th January 2014: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Saturday seized 1 kg of gold from a passenger at Kochi international airport.

The gold was seized from a passenger from Dubai. DRI officials seized the gold from P Mohammad Salim, a native of Kasargod. Officials said Salim had cut a gold bar into pieces and concealed it in the batteries of a LED light in his baggage.

They said Salim had left for Dubai in search of a job and was returning home as he could not find employment. He was allegedly offered `40,000 to smuggle the gold into the country through Nedumbassery airport during his return.
